Diane Giraud’s practice moves across interdisciplinary installations and performance, integrating sculpture, sound, and text to explore the complex intersections of memory, language, and freedom.
Born and raised in Paris to Vietnamese and Greek heritage and trained as a fashion designer in London, Diane brings a deep understanding of form, texture, and craftsmanship to her visual work. Her background in fashion informs her precise attention to materials, techniques, and processes, while her experience across diverse cultural contexts shapes her exploration of narrative, identity, and memory.
Performance is a central medium in her practice, particularly through In Limen, the cultural platform she co-founded and directs, where she ideates, curates, and produces live participatory performances that foster inclusive dialogue and community engagement.
Her work critically engages with phenomena such as childhood amnesia and the subconscious transmission of culture, reflecting on how inherited histories
and fragmented memories shape individual and collective identities across generations. Drawing from her personal multicultural background, she explores the invisible threads of heritage conveyed through language, emotion, and embodied experience.
Diane’s installations and the performances she produces create liminal spaces where memory and language converge, inviting reflection on the possibilities of freedom and transformation. Through these environments, she encourages audiences to engage with the porous boundaries between presence and absence, tradition and innovation, human and technological experience.
Over more than a decade, Diane has collaborated with institutions including Culturgest, Hangar Y, PADA Studios, and the Museum of Natural History and Science in Lisbon. Her work has been supported by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, Lisbon City Hall, EGEAC, and the Portuguese Ministry of Culture.
