Art Rituals For Our Modern Times
When divisiveness seemingly prevails in society.
When unkind interactions are normalized,
When hyper-connectedness is a fragile mask for greater social isolation,
We want to recreate a sense of belonging,
We want to support the art of conversation,
We want to nurture authentic interactions between people,
In order to create that space,
We needed to explore topics that are intrinsic to our quest as human beings
- No matter our gender, cultural, generational, social or other backgrounds.
WHAT IS IN LIMEN?
In Limen is a cultural catalyst creating participatory, art-led happenings through unique formats for a diverse, inclusive, and transgenerational audience.
Co-founded by siblings Diane & Pierre Giraud, the project has received awards and support from Dra. Catarina Vaz Pinto, the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, Lisbon City Hall, EGEAC, PADA Studios, and the Portuguese Ministry of Culture.
WHY DO WE DO IT?
Despite social media and our so-called hyperconnected societies, loneliness and social isolation remain defining conditions of our time.
A sense of belonging and connectedness are fundamental human needs.
We believe art and conversation are powerful vehicles to cultivate them.
WHAT WE DO
Triggering wonder, fostering meaningful encounters, and nurturing connection — one In Limen experience at a time.
HOW DO WE WORK?
We create participatory art experiences engaging with contemporary human and more-than-human questions at the intersection of art, philosophy, and science. Each experience unfolds in two Acts:
ACT I — ART EXPERIENCE
(20 minutes to 1 hour)
An artistic intervention designed to open participants emotionally.
ACT II — CONVERSATION
(20 minutes to 1 hour)
A guided exchange facilitated through our playful, protocol-based methodology.
Our mission is to generate social impact by offering In Limen experiences to the public and to organizations — promoting mental well-being, democratizing access to culture, and fostering diversity and inclusion, particularly for underrepresented communities.
